What’s Trending In 2016? 2016 is going to be a great year for weddings! There are so many fun, new trends being introduced. Here are some of my favorites!   1. His and Her Cocktails: Why not feature your favorite cocktails at your reception? Rather than doing a simple signature drink, you get to showcase a bit of both the bride and groom’s personalities! By offering up these two signature cocktails in lieu of a complete open bar, the savings are outstanding. Including your “His and Her Cocktails” with a selection of your favorite craft beer and wine is a great way to give your guests the options they want while still saving on your budget! 2. Naked Cakes & Hand Painted Cakes: With the wedding cake typically being a focal point of your reception, it is important that you pick something beautiful and one that reflects the personality of your relationship. Naked cakes began trending in 2015, and they will continue to be at the forefront of the cake scene in the year to come! Adorn the cake with flowers, succulents, or greenery, and you have a visual masterpiece fit for your rustic elegance affair. Hand painted cakes will also make a big appearance this year. With bold colors, metallic, and delicate prints, these cakes will really make a statement! 3. A Step Away From Florals: In 2016, we will see a lessened presence of traditional floral centerpieces and a shift to lush greenery on tables with berries and fruits, and even hanging arrangements. Did you enjoy Rochelle and Luke’s story? We are so excited for them! NOW, our next proposal story is a little unique….as it happened 26 years ago! Once we heard of Kay and Jay’s engagement story, we just had to share. Their story is one that girls these days should really take to heart- if you just wait and don’t rush things, your happy ending will happen! And, it may begin in a more explosive way than you think! Here is their story: KAY- Jay and I met in college at NAU in Flagstaff. We officially met at the end of May my sophmore year in, at a President’s BBQ, and then re-connected in August of 1983. At that point, however, he was determined to not be ‘tied down’ his last year on campus. Well, that didn’t last long as we were inseperable until he left for his internships. We dated long distance while I finished school, split for a while, and reconnected in 1987 with the intention to be married. Jay had his own plan on how to propose, and I was anxiously waiting to begin planning. JAY – I knew Kay was the one for me and wanted to make my proposal special. I think San Francisco is an incredibly romantic city and initially thought I’d do it there. I planned to ask her to accompany me to a conference in the City by the Bay. The only trouble was there wasn’t a conference so I’d have to make up some details to fool her into believing it was the real deal. I was going to tell her I was going to skip the morning session and take her to Muir Woods and pop the question. Then I thought she’ll never believe me skipping out of the conference so I had to hatch a new plan. Then like a bolt from the blue it hit me…..I put my new plan into action by making a few simple deductions and three phone calls. After the 3rd call I sent a check for $125 and the deal was done. KAY – So we decided to spend the 1988 (yes, that’s SIX years after we met!) 4th of July holiday weekend in Prescott, as we had done for several years. Only this year, his parents wouldn’t be there so we invited some friends to join us. In all honesty, I was a little perturbed that a proposal hadn’t been forthcoming by this point as I knew part of our ‘plan’ was to marry in Spring of 1989, and I knew how long planning I needed, and this was cutting into my time. I called my best friend Paige and lamented/whined a little, and she reassured me that I just need to go and have a good time and not worry about anything. We invited one other couple, Bob and Robyn, and bopped around the fun town of Prescott. That night it was decided that we would go to the high school and watch fireworks. Everyone made a big fuss over sitting in the stands, which I thought was ridiculous since there was perfectly good grass right outside the stadium. THE ART OF PROPOSING As many of you know, proposing sure isn’t what it used to be. These days, the more wow-factor involved, the better! So, since we here at CHC specialize in the art of creativity, why not feature some amazing creative proposals!  Our first featured bride to be happens to be our fantastic intern, Rochelle. Her fiancé proposed just 8 days ago, and did so in way that was more intimate for the two of them. So, their story proves creativity is custom made for each couple. We are so excited for Rochelle and Luke and their future adventures together! Here is Rochelle and Luke’s Story: How We Met We met in an unlikely place. We met at bar, The Sandbar. Although it may not sound classy it is a love story that led us to an incredible engagement! I saw Luke with his friends at the bar. Luke, may kill me, but he was and is an impressive dancer. Anyway, I saw him and I knew right away that I needed to talk to him. As he passed me to hit the dance floor, I stepped next to him and said “Hi, you’re a really good dancer” and that was the moment we met. I gave him my phone number and he gave me his. A couple of weeks went by and I finally heard from him! So, there was a time I thought we’d never speak again but he reached out and we met for drinks on a Wednesday and that Friday we were in San Diego on our first trip for the weekend! I don’t know why I jumped in a car with a complete stranger but I never felt that Luke was a stranger. He was someone I was immediately attracted to and always felt safe around. It ended up being a great weekend and we were inseparable after that then we fell in love, adopted a cat named Carlos, and now we’re engaged. <3 Our Engagement  Our engagement story is more of the classic one compared to most that happen nowadays. It was private not a lot of frill or worry (on my end anyway). Luke and I have had our fair share of staycations in Phoenix. He travels a lot for work and when time allows us, we like to getaway in the city and discover something new together. Adventures and private getaways are definitely our thing. The day started off like any other day. The only thing different was that where we were staying was a secret. I had no idea we were going to stay at The Phoenician and he did his best to keep it that way. We took a different route to get there (this threw me off completely) and when we finally arrived he told me to guess where we were and as soon as we arrived I knew! The service was amazing (but that was because everyone knew about our special occasion also, because they are just amazing in general) either way, it was a special kind of service during our trip. As the afternoon turned into evening, he suggested that I get ready for dinner at 7. As I was getting ready, he mentioned he would walk down to Valet to get something he left...

Put the love in the Coconut There are so many ways to incorporate coconut flavored anything this summer, so try this refreshing coconut peach lemonade to get the party started this summer and pair it with pizelle’s for a fun summer bridal shower:   Coconut Peach Lemonade Recipe 2 heaping TBS honey(or use a mixture of 1 TBS honey and 6 drops of stevia) 2 cups of coconut water 2 ripe peaches, pits removed(plus more for optional garnish) fresh squeezed juice of 4 large lemons ice lemon slices, peach and mint for garnish(if desired) Directions: Put honey, coconut water, 2 peaches and juice of four lemons into your high speed blender, and blend until smooth. Strain(if desired) and serve over ice with a few lemon and peach slices with a sprig of fresh mint. Pizzelle Cookie Recipe: 3 eggs 3/4 cup sugar 8 Tbs. (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted, plus more for brushing 2 tsp. vanilla extract 1 tsp. finely grated lemon zest 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour 2 tsp. baking powder Directions: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and sugar until light yellow and thick ribbons fall from the whisk, 2 to 3 minutes. Add the 8 Tbs. melted butter, the vanilla and lemon zest and whisk until blended. Over a sheet of waxed paper, sift together the flour and baking powder. Fold the flour mixture into the egg mixture in two additions, folding each addition just until blended. Heat a pizzelle maker according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Brush lightly with butter and spoon about 1 Tbs. of the batter onto the pizzelle maker. If any batter oozes out, cut it off immediately. Cook according to the manufacturer’s instructions until golden brown. Transfer the pizzelle to a wire rack and let cool. Repeat with the remaining batter.  Have you heard? Red henna’s are out and white henna tats are in. The traditional display of red hennas has become the summer trend for most family vacations and festivals but have you looked into white hennas? Not only is it different and stylish but it’s also fitting for the perfect entertainment stand during a wedding reception.
